D Series Platform Positioning

From Flexible End-of-Line Placement to High-Speed Volume Production

The D Series was built around scalable machine capacity and modular placement-head configurations. D1/D1i emphasizes flexibility, D2/D2i combines speed and flexibility, while D3/D3i and D4/D4i increase line capacity through additional gantries and head positions.

D1 / D1i 1 Gantry

Flexible machine role with Collect & Place and Pick & Place head options.

D2 / D2i 2 Gantries

Fast and flexible dual-gantry platform for balanced production lines.

D3 / D3i 3 Gantries

Higher line capacity with machine-specific head and conveyor configurations.

D4 / D4i 4 Gantries

Highest-capacity D Series configuration for high-speed component placement.

Legacy Platform Overview

Understanding the Siemens ASM SIPLACE D Series

SIPLACE D machines remain relevant in established production lines where operators, programs, feeders, spare parts and maintenance experience are already built around the platform.

Selecting a D1i, D2i, D3i or D4i Machine

The D Series spans flexible single-gantry machines through four-gantry high-speed configurations. The correct model should be selected according to required output, component range, head combination, PCB transport and the role the machine will perform within the line.

Two machines with the same model designation may have different Collect & Place heads, Pick & Place heads, cameras, feeder tables, conveyor arrangements and software generations. The actual installed configuration must therefore be reviewed before quotation.

Information to Confirm Before Selection

  • Complete machine model: D1/D1i, D2/D2i, D3/D3i or D4/D4i
  • Machine serial number, manufacturing year and software version
  • Number of gantries and installed head type on each position
  • C&P12, C&P6, Pick & Place or other installed head configuration
  • Single-conveyor or flexible dual-conveyor arrangement
  • PCB dimensions, component range and tray requirements
  • Required feeder type, quantity and tape widths
  • Machine condition, destination and expected delivery schedule

SIPLACE D1i, D2i, D3i and D4i Comparison

The table summarizes the general positioning of the principal D Series configurations. Exact heads, cameras, conveyor systems and installed options remain machine-specific and must be checked individually.

Machine Family Typical Gantry Structure Common Head Direction Production Positioning Important Verification Supply Status
SIPLACE D1 / D1i Single gantry C&P12 or C&P6 with optional Pick & Place combinations Flexible placement, mixed components and end-of-line applications Check one- or two-head configuration, cameras and tray system Contact for availability
SIPLACE D2 / D2i Dual gantry C&P12 and/or C&P6 combinations Fast and flexible production with balanced line capacity Check head combination, feeder tables and conveyor mode Contact for availability
SIPLACE D3 / D3i Three gantries Configuration-dependent Collect & Place and flexible head setups Higher-capacity mixed production and line balancing Check every gantry, camera type, head type and software generation Contact for availability
SIPLACE D4 / D4i Four gantries Commonly four 12-nozzle Collect & Place heads on D4i configurations Highest D Series throughput for high-volume component placement Check all four heads, conveyor configuration and condition records Contact for availability
Production Applications

Where Used SIPLACE D Series Machines Still Add Value

The strongest use case is normally an established SIPLACE production environment that needs additional capacity, a replacement machine, compatible parts or a lower-investment equipment option.

01

Existing Line Expansion

Add compatible capacity to a production line that already uses D Series programs, feeders, operators and maintenance procedures.

02

Replacement Equipment

Replace a damaged or retired D Series machine while minimizing changes to the surrounding production environment.

03

Mixed-Component Production

Use suitable head combinations for standard chips, ICs, tray-fed parts and larger or odd-shaped components.

04

Controlled Equipment Investment

Source used or refurbished equipment where a mature platform can meet the application without purchasing a new-generation line.

Supply Process

From D Series Requirement to Delivery

A D Series machine should be verified by its complete installed configuration, software generation, head setup, conveyor system and current condition before the order is finalized.

01

Requirement Review

Confirm the required D model, production role, PCB range, component mix, feeder quantity and target output.

02

Configuration Matching

Review gantry count, head types, cameras, conveyor arrangement, feeder tables and software information.

03

Condition Confirmation

Check available photos, labels, installed parts, maintenance information, testing scope and included accessories.

04

Packing and Delivery

Confirm export packing, machine securing, feeder packages, shipping information and destination requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

SIPLACE D Series Machine Questions

Common questions about D1i, D2i, D3i and D4i machine differences, configuration checks, used-equipment supply and legacy parts support.

The principal model families include SIPLACE D1/D1i, D2/D2i, D3/D3i and D4/D4i. Machines should be identified by the complete model label because configurations vary.

The models generally scale from one gantry on D1i to four gantries on D4i. Their production role also depends on the installed Collect & Place or Pick & Place heads, cameras and conveyor setup.

The “i” identifies a later D Series generation or configuration. Exact differences should be confirmed from the individual machine label, software version, installed heads and technical records.

Used or refurbished D Series equipment may be available according to current inventory. The machine condition, test scope, configuration and included accessories must be confirmed individually.

A D1i can be configured with a Pick & Place head for larger or more complex components. The actual head, camera, tray and component capability must be verified on the available machine.

Yes. D4i is the four-gantry high-capacity configuration of the D Series and is commonly equipped with four 12-nozzle Collect & Place heads. The actual machine setup must still be checked.

Feeder packages depend on the quotation. Machines may be supplied separately or matched with compatible feeders, feeder tables and trolleys according to the production setup.

Many feeders, head parts, nozzles, motors, boards, cameras, sensors and cables can be matched by machine model, part number, installed position and photos. Availability depends on the specific component.

Please provide the complete model, required head configuration, PCB and component range, feeder requirement, preferred machine condition, quantity, destination and delivery schedule.
